So they all formed a coalition against France. But, unexpectidecly, France won battle after battle mainly due to the presence of the skilled general Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon got together the largest army that Europe had ever seen to march into Russia. The Russians knew they could not win against Napoleon so they ran away and scorched the earth behind them so that Napoleon's soldiers had to use supply lines which slowed them down. When they were about to reach Moscow, the Russians quickly released all the prisioners and told them to burn the city to the ground and they did. Now Moscow was up in flames and when Napoleon got there, there was nothing for him to take. He sent a letter to the Russians requesting that they surrender. The Russians never responded. Napoleon sat for days and weeks waiting for a reply but never got one. Then, the winter came, and Napoleon had to retreat back home, but due to the brutal Russian winter, more than 75% of his men died and he was greatly weakened by the time he finally left Russia. This greatly weakened Napoleon was then defeated by the British, Russians, Austrians, Prussians, and now Spaniards. Napoleon was exiled to Elba and the French monharchy was reinstated. But Napoleon came back again on a boat. When Napoleon came to France, the king ordered soldiers to go and arrest him. But instead, they joined his side and Napoleon once again gained control of France. He tried to attach through Belgium, but the other monharchies were not going to let that happen, they defeated Napoleon once again and then exiled him to Saint Helena. There he lived until he died.
