The History of Greece near World War 2 - 8-14-2026 421

The year is 1921 AD. Europe is a smoking crater. Greece stretches proudly from the Ionian islands to Anatolian Ionia and from Thrace to Crete. The capital, Athens, sits lazily on the Aegean sea coast along with Thessaloniki to the north. The Greek controlled Turk city of Izmir sees trouble ahead. The Turks are not happy with their homeland being divided so far, so they band together to regain their lands. By 1923 AD, Turkey reconquered Greek Anatolia and Thrace. In 1940 AD, Italy looking to reform the Roman Empire declared war on Greece. But ironically, Greece was winning, pushing into Italian Albania. Then, Germany demanded that Hungary, Romania, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, and Greece join their side. Only Yugoslavia and Greece refused. They were soon crushed. Most of Greece was occupied by Italy but Germany occupied Macedonia, Lesbos, Lemnos, and most of Crete. Since Italy became unstable, by 1944, Greece was occupied completely by Germany. In 1945, Germany was defeated and World War 2 ended. Greece was reinstated and the Aegean islands that Italy controlled were given to Greece. Greece had a communist revolution from 1946 to 1949, but the communists were not successful. In 1952, Greece joined NATO and in 1981, they joined the European Union. The end. -- Written by Vikenait Productions Profile
